
Heitland Third After Day One of the Drake Multi-Events

DES MOINES – Austin Heitland sits third in the decathlon and Erica Loussaert and Brooke Lorenz are seventh and ninth in the heptathlon respectively after the first day of multi-event competition at the Drake Relays.
Heitland won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21 and took second in the shot put and the 400-meter dash to finish with a day-one total of 3,593.
On the women's side, Loussaert finished the first day with 2,900 points while Lorenz was close behind at 2,882. Loussaert finished fourth in the shot put for her highest event finish. Lorenz was sixth in the shot put and the 200-meter dash for her highest marks.
The trio closes out the multi-event competition tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles and the heptathlon opens at 11 a.m. with the long jump.
On top of the conclusion of the multi-events, the Drake Relays distance carnival gets underway with the unseeded 800-meter dash beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Seven Panthers are scheduled to compete in the distance carnival. Hunter Lavallee and Seb Gearhart are slated to run in the unseeded 800-meter run, Wal Khat will run in the unseeded 1,500-meter run, McKayla Cole will run in the 10,000-meter run. Ben Ahlrichs and Alex Jackson will compete in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase while Alyssa Williams will compete in the women's steeplechase.
The relays continue Friday and Saturday on the blue oval.
