UNI Softball Battles In-State Foe Iowa; Travels to Illinois State

GAME NOTES - ILLINOIS STATE
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Following a series sweep against Evansville, the Panthers will stay home for a matchup with the Iowa Hawkeyes before traveling to Normal, Illinois to face off with the Illinois State Redbirds.
The Panthers will take on the Hawkeyes on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m., and the two teams will play one game.
In the all-time series against Iowa, UNI is 24-31, with the last victory over the Hawkeyes coming in 2014 in a 9-8 victory at Iowa. The Panthers have dropped the last three games against Iowa, and under head coach Ryan Jacobs, UNI is 3-7 against Iowa. When playing the Hawkeyes in Cedar Falls under Jacobs, the Panthers are 0-5 against Iowa.
Following their game against Iowa, the Panthers travel to Illinois to play a three-game series with the Redbirds of Illinois State. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 beginning at 12:00 p.m. and a single-game on Sunday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m.
Against Illinois State, UNI is 27-76-1, with the last UNI victory over ISU coming in 2018 in a 6-1 effort at home. The Panthers are 7-1 in the last eight regular season games against Illinois State, and under Jacobs, the team is 14-21 against the Redbirds. When playing on the road at ISU, UNI is 6-6 under Jacobs.
The team is led by shortstop Sammey Bunch, who is first in the conference with a .432 batting average, a .909 slugging percentage, 33 runs scored and ten home runs. The middle infielder also leads the Missouri Valley with 80 total bases, which is over 20 more than the second place player. Bunch is the team leader in virtually every offensive category, with five more home runs than the next leading home run hitter for the team.
