Khat, Schinkel Lead the Panthers in First Day at Tom Botts Invite

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Lyndsie Schinkel won the 1,500-meter run with a season-best time of 4:32.66 and Wal Khat won the men's 1,500 with a career-best time of 3:56.48 to highlight the first day of the Tom Botts Invite for the UNI track and field team.

The schedule included just six field events and six track events. The Panthers fielded athletes in 10 of the 12 events and finished with top-three finishes in five events, including the two 1,500-meter run wins.

Schinkel's time is the fifth-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference to-date.

Other Panthers to earn top-three finishes were Alanna Nietert finished third in the hammer throw with a time of 181-feet-0. Cade Kirkpatrick finished second in the long jump with a leap of 23-feet-8 1/4. Darius King finished second in the javelin with a throw of 165-feet-11.

The bulk of the meet takes place Saturday beginning with field events at 11:30 a.m. with the pole vault and track events begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
