UNI Tennis Defeats Valpo 6-1

WATERLOO, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team got their first MVC win of the season, defeating Valparaiso 6-1.

The Panthers earned the doubles point at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Daisy Phillips and Olivia Fain posted a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 spot. Valentina Caro and Harri Proudfoot posted a 6-1 victory in the No. 2 spot to earn the doubles point.

Three of the six singles matches would go to a tie-breaker situation. Claudia Toledo would win in two sets, defeating Meg Modesto in the No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-3. Caro would post a 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles spot to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Reghan Lynch sealed the Panthers victory, posting a 7-5, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 singles match.

The No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 singles matches would all go to a tie-breaker situation. The Panthers won the No. 4 and No. 6 matches. Olivia Fain fell in the first set before coming back to win the match, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Daisy Phillips posted a 6-2 victory in the first set before Isabella Schoolcraft won in the second set 7-5. Phillips would pull away in the third set, 6-4 to win the match.

Harri Proudfoot forced her match to a tie-breaker situation, falling 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The Panthers return to action next week, as they travel to Illinois State and Bradley to finish the regular season.
