ST. LOUIS, Missouri – The UNI men's basketball team had three players earn MVC recognition on Tuesday after the league announced its annual awards. UNI's AJ Green, Isaiah Brown, and Spencer Haldeman each earned spots on All-Conference teams.
The MVC All-Conference teams are voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors, and a media panel.
The Panther's junior guard, Isaiah Brown, earned a spot on the leagues All-Defensive Team. Brown was a consistent presence on the floor for the Panthers this season, recording a team-leading 33 steals. Brown finished the regular season with 14 blocks, and ranked second on the team with 108 defensive rebounds. Brown is the sixth Panther to make the MVC's All-Defensive Team, joining Jason Diasy (1997), Grant Tout (2005,2006), Kwadzo Ahelegbe (2009, 2010, 2011), Lucas O'Rear (2011), and Jeremy Morgan (2016, 2017). This is the first postseason award Brown has earned in his time at UNI.
UNI's Spencer Haldeman was named the MVC's Sixth Man of the Year, sharing the award this season with Bradley's Nate Kennell. The Sixth Man of the Year is awarded annually to the league's top reserve player. Haldeman ranks third in scoring for the Panthers, averaging 7.9 points per game. Haldeman ended the regular season with 50 made three-pointers and led the Panthers with a .862 free throw percentage. Haldeman joins Lucas O'Rear (2009, 2010) and Wes Washpun as the only Panthers to earn the MVC Sixth Man of the Year award.
Freshman AJ Green earned four postseason awards highlighted by earning MVC Third Team honors and MVC Freshman of the Year. Green was also named to the leagues All-Newcomer Team and All-Freshman Team.
Green ended the regular season with 472 points, averaging 15.2 points per game, becoming the first freshman since 1999 to average more than 15 points per game. Green finished in double-digit scoring totals in 25 of the Panthers 31 games this season and dropped a season-high 27 against Grand Canyon on December 19. Green joins Eric Coleman (2005) and Seth Tuttle (2012) as the only Panthers to be awarded the MVC's Freshman of the Year.
