Sammey Bunch Named MVC Player of the Week

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Shortstop Sammey Bunch has been named the MVC softball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first time this season that any UNI player has received a weekly honor.

In the two games played on Sunday, Bunch went 5-8 from the from the plate with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored.

In game one, Bunch collected two base hits and came around to score twice, while also scoring a run. In the second game of the doubleheader Bunch had three base hits and two runs scored as well as a home run and three RBIs.

Bunch is the team's leader in virtually every offensive category, as she has smacked five home runs and driven in 15 batters to go along with her 23 runs scored. Bunch is the MVC's leader in runs scored with four more than the next player.

It is the third time in Bunch's career that she has been named as a Player of the Week for the Missouri Valley Conference.
