Panther Women Fall to Missouri State, 63-58

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI women's basketball team fell to Missouri State 63-58 Sunday afternoon in Cedar Falls.
The first half was a battle of two defensive-minded teams. The Panthers held Missouri State to just 10-34 (29.4 percent) from the field in the first half while the Bears forced UNI into 12 turnovers.
The Panthers most of the way, but Missouri State closed the third quarter on a 7-0 run to take a one-point lead with seven seconds to play in the quarter and never trailed again.
The Bears built an eight-point lead with 6:20 to play before UNI went on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 59-56 with 2:18 to play.
MSU iced the game with free throws down the stretch to hold on for the five-point win.
Karli Rucker led the Panthers with 11 points on 5-10 shooting. She also notched six assists. Cynthia Wolf tallied seven points and a game-high seven rebounds. The Panthers were 25-59 (42.4 percent) from the field but made only one trip to the free throw line.
Missouri State was 20-58 (34.5 percent) from the field and 23-29 (79.3 percent) from the free throw line. The Panthers held the Bears without a three-pointer.
Four MSU players scored in double figures.
The Panthers are now 13-7 on the year and 6-3 in MVC play. Missouri State remained unbeaten in the Valley with a 9-0 mark. MSU is 13-7 on the season.
UP NEXT: The Panthers travel to face Loyola Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. in Chicago. The Panthers topped the Ramblers 64-52 in the first meeting of the season on Jan. 13 in Cedar Falls.
