THE PANTHERS
• The Panthers move to 14-15 on the season at 9-7 in the MVC after defeating the Crusaders of Valparaiso on Saturday in the McLeod Center.
• The Panthers take on the Ramblers (17-12, 10-6 MVC) of Loyola on Wednesday.
• Head Coach Ben Jacobson is 264-165 all-time, 6-7 against the Ramblers and 3-2 at home against Loyola.
• The Panthers are on a four-game win streak, the longest streak since winning five in a row in the 2017-18 season from 11/13/17-11/23/17.
• UNI has made at least one 3-pointer in 623 straight games – the longest active streak in the Missouri Valley Conference.
• Freshman guard AJ Green led the Panthers with 22 points against Valparaiso. The Cedar Falls, Iowa native went 9-16 from the field and made 3 three-pointers while hauling in 5 rebounds.
• Spencer Haldeman has been on fire off the bench in February. Haldeman averages 7.7 PPG this season but has averaged 11.5 PPG in the month of February.
• Freshman AJ Green leads the Panthers in scoring in his first year with the team. Green averages 15.3 points per game, ranking 6th in the MVC.
• The Panthers are second in the MVC, behind Evansville, in made three-pointers with 132, (8.3 per game).
• The Panthers average only 10.6 turnovers in Valley play, tied for fewest in the league with Loyola. The Panthers also rank third with a 1.63 turnover margin.
• Three Panthers rank in the top 15 in three-pointers per game. AJ Green ranks 5th (2.0), Spencer Haldeman ranks 8th (1.9) and Trae Berhow ranks 11th (1.6). Senior Wyatt Lohaus comes in at 21st making 1.3 per game.
THE RAMBLERS
• The Ramblers are currently in second place in the MVC with a 10-6 record in league play and a 17-12 overall record.
• The Ramblers defeated the Panthers 61-60 on Jan 30 in Chicago behind 22 points from Cameron Krutwig and 19 from Marques Townes.
• The pair of Krutwig and Townes has been the key to the Ramblers success this season. The two have averaged over 16 points per game in league play and both rank in the top 5 in MVC scoring with Townes leading the league averaging 17.8 points per game.
• Cameron Krutwig is one of the league's top all-around players having earned MVC Freshman of the Year, and a spot on the All-Newcomer and All-Freshman teams a season ago.
• Krutwig ranks 4th in scoring (16.1 PPG) and 4th in rebounds (7.3 RPG) while making 61% of his shot from the field this season.
• Clayton Custer will be a player to watch, a 2018 Honorable Mention All-American and the MVC Player of the Year has averaged 9.9 points per game in league play this season.
• Chicago area native Porter Moser has been at the helm for the most significant moments in Loyola University Chicago men's basketball history in the last 55 years. During his first seven seasons in Rogers Park, Moser has changed the program's culture all while also successfully navigating the transition to the Missouri Valley Conference.
• Loyola's 50 wins over the last two seasons are its most over a two-year stretch since 1962-63 and 1963-64.
• Moser was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2018 and also was selected as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 16 Coach of the Year after leading Loyola to the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships and a school-record 32 wins.
• The Ramblers knocked off four nationally ranked teams, including the program's first-ever win on the road against a top-five opponent (No. 5 Florida), and the team ranked second in the nation in fewest personal fouls per game (13.9), third in field goal percentage (.507), and sixth in scoring defense (62.6 ppg).
THE STREAK
UNI has made at least one 3-Pointer in 623 straight games – the longest active streak in the Missouri Valley Conference. The last time UNI failed to make a 3-point basket came Feb. 3, 2000, vs. Southern Illinois in a 72-58 Panther victory in the UNI-Dome. UNI went 0-for-4 from 3-point land vs. the Salukis in that contest.
MR. FEBRUARY
Junior guard Spencer Haldeman has been a force from off the bench this season averaging 7.7 points per game. Haldeman has been on fire in February with five games in double digits, Haldeman is averaging 11.5 points per game in the month of February. Haldeman has shot 50% from the field and has knocked down 15 three-pointers.
GREEN NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Green ended the week with 32 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists to help the Panthers go 2-0 on the week. Green went 3-8 from the field and made all four of his free throw attempts against Missouri State to total 10 points. Green finished with 22 points in the Panthers victory over Valparaiso on Saturday, going 9-16 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the three-point arc. The freshman hauled in 5 rebounds to help the Panthers record their fourth straight win, the longest winning streak of the season.
