UNI Women's Hoops Hits the Road to Wichita State

UNI faces former MVC opponent Wichita State Saturday on the road in Kansas. UNI is 1-0 for the season after a dominant win over North Dakota State. It is the season opener for the Shockers. WSU played an exhibition game against Missouri Southern State and won 80-33.
• Saturday's game is the 75th meeting for UNI and Wichita State in a series dating back to 1984. The Panthers lead the series 39-35 and have won the last four meetings. It is the first meeting since the Shockers left the league after the 2016-17 season.
• In the season opener, five Panthers scored in double-figures, led by Karli Rucker's 22 points and UNI rolled North Dakota State 95-63. The Panthers shot 29-59 (49.2%) from the field and 10-17 (58.8%) from the three-point line.
• In WSU's lone exhibition game, Maya Brewer scored 17 points and Carla Bremaud scored 16 to lead the Shockers to a blowout win over
• UNI returns 2018-19 First-Team All-MVC honoree Karli Rucker and 2017-18 First-Team All-MVF honoree Megan Maahs to court. Maahs returns after missing most of the 2018-19 season with an injury.
• UNI has played in postseason play in nine of the last 10 seasons, including an appearance in the WNIT in 2019 where the Panthers met Minnesota in the first round.
• Karli Rucker is the leading returning scorer at 15.0 points per game for the 2018-19 season.
• The Panthers lost starters Mikaela Morgan, Ellie Howell and Taylor Hagen to graduation.
• UNI brought in three freshmen in Cailyn Morgan, Sara McCullough and Kaitlin Winston. Kristina Cavey joins the Panthers as a graduate transfer from Fresno State where she started 19 games for the Bulldogs.
• UNI plays games against five power- five conference teams, the most in the MVC. The Panthers play Iowa, Iowa State, Ohio State, Alabama and Missouri.
