
UNI Football Plays Thursday Game at Indiana State

THE GAME
After three non-conference games, culminating in a 1-2 record, UNI Football is ready to get the MVFC slate going Thursday in Terre Haute, Indiana, against Indiana State in the MVFC Game of the Week.Â
No. 21 UNI is 1-2 after getting in the win column against Hampton (Va.). The Panthers shutout the Pirates, winning 44-0. UNI racked up 414 yards of offense and forced five Hampton turnovers in the process.Â
Panther receiver Deion McShane had a breakout game with seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. He was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week for his performance. Elias Nissen and Nick Fossey both caught their second touchdowns of the season and Marcus Weymiller and Trevor Allen notched rushing touchdowns. Austin Errthum was 3-3 in field goals and 5-5 in PATs.Â
Defensively, four players intercepted passes. Chris Kolarevic, A.J. Allen, Roosevelt Lawrence and Xavior Williams all pulled down INTs. Isaiah Nimmers picked up a fumble recovery.Â
The Sycamores are a run-first team. ISU has 841 yards as a team this season and is averaging 326 yards per game. Ja'Quan keys has 416 yards in three games. Two quarterbacks have taken snaps for ISU and are listed as possible starters on the depth chart. Jalil Kilpatrick and Ryan Boyle have both played in two games, but neither has tallied a touchdown pass or an interception. Â
Defensively, Jones Griffith leads the way with 30 total tackles, two tackles for loss and the lone interception on the season.Â
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m.Â

• The Panthers are ranked No. 21 in the STATS FCS Poll and No. 22 in the FCS Coaches' Poll.
• UNI is one of 15 teams in the FCS that has scored in every trip to the red zone. The Panthers are tied with Illinois State and Indiana State for the lead in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
• Running back Marcus Weymiller, offensive tackle Cal Twait, quarterback Eli Dunne and linebacker Duncan Ferch were announced as captains for the 2018 season by head coach Mark Farley.Â
• The Panthers have outscored their opponents 61-17 after the break. UNI has a 33-0 advantage in the fourth quarter over the first three games of the season.
• Brothers Trevor and AJ Allen, sons of Panther Hall of Famer Andre Allen, are both making waves for UNI early this season. Trevor is UNI's leading rusher through three games. AJ has interceptions in back-to-back games. He is also third on the team with 21 tackles.
• The Panthers are among the nation's leaders in fewest penalties and fewest penalty yards. The ranking is made even more impressive after playing two road games in hostile environments. UNI ranks 33rd in the country and second in the MVFC.
• The Panthers are 12-2 against Indiana State under Mark Farley. The two losses came by a combined three points (21-19 - 2002 and 20-19 – 2014).
• UNI is 7-0 in non-Saturday games under Farley. The last Thursday night game was nearly a decade ago against Nicholls State on Oct. 10, 2008, a 34-14 win.
• After going 0-11 last season, the Sycamores are off to a 2-1 start this season. They picked up a 49-0 win over DII Quincy, fell to NCAA DI team Louisville 31-7 and topped Eastern Illinois 55-41.
• UNI picked up the first win of the season in impressive fashion Saturday, shutting out Hampton (Va.). It is the first shutout for the Panthers since 2015. The Panthers opened the season with road losses to Montana and Iowa.
