THE GAME
UNI Panther football comes off of an early bye week and heads back on the road, this time right down I-380 as the Panthers travel to Iowa City for the cross-state game against the University of Iowa.Â
The Panthers are 0-1 after a slow start in the opening game at the University of Montana put UNI in a hole. The Panthers rallied in the second half, but couldn't overcome the deficit.Â
The Hawkeyes on the other hand are hosting their third consecutive home game to start the season. They defeated Northern Illinois 33-7 to start the season and defeated Iowa State 13-3 in the Cy-Hawk game.Â
In the opener, Briley Moore shined on the offense, pulling down five catches for 78 yards. Trevor Allen rushed for a team-high 50 yards while Marcus Weymiller, Colton Howell and Nick Fossey all found the end zone for UNI. Â Duncan Ferch led the defense with 12 tackles.Â
The Panthers look to get into the win column against an Iowa team that is among the FBS leaders in scoring defense, total defense and sacks. Quarterback Nate Stanley is 10-5 as a starter and 6-0 in non-conference games. He has a competition percentage of 52.9 and has one touchdown pass in the first two games.
