The 10th Annual Rally in the Valley "A Purple Tie Affair" had a record-breaking year with $264,170 raised toward student-athlete scholarships and also brought together more than 600 supporters to celebrate Panther athletics. The event was held in the McLeod Center on Sat., April 14.
"The Rally in the Valley has become a signature event for UNI Athletics and the Panther Scholarship Club," UNI Director of Athletics David Harris said. "I would like to thank everyone that attended this year's event and helped make it a record-breaking evening. Special thanks needs to be given to Nathan Christensen, Samantha Koch, Kelsey Hansen and Natalie Lotz for their help in making it a memorable evening to celebrate Panther athletics. Their tireless behind-the-scenes efforts made the night possible."
Attendees were able to take in a silent auction to begin the evening, followed by a dinner served by UNI student-athletes. The evening concluded with a live auction. For the second straight year the Handbid app was used to streamline the silent auction bidding. It also allowed individuals unable to attend the evening to take part in the silent auction.
UNI set a Rally in the Valley record with $68,375 raised during the silent auction period.
The largest bid of the night came in the live auction when an all-inclusive villa rental for seven days and seven nights at Casas de las Brisas in Puerto Villarta, Mexico, went for $29,500. One of the other larger bids came on a package to the 2019 Masters golf tournament, which went for $20,500. The 13 live auction items totaled $130,100 on the night.
One of the highlights of the evening featured an interview session from host Eric Braley with former UNI pole vault national champion Jacob Pauli. Pauli shared in his good humor about why he selected UNI and was able to become a national champion for the Panthers.
The money raised at the Rally in the Valley goes toward student-athlete scholarships.
Please keep an eye out for the date of the 2019 Rally in the Valley.
