UNI Wrestling: 5 Earn Spots on Big 12 Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - UNI wrestling had five Panthers named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team.

Sophomores Isaiah Patton and Max Thomsen earned spots on the first team, which requires student-athletes to maintain a 3.20 or better GPA. Jake Hodges, Jacob Holschlag and Paden Moore earned second team honors with GPA's above 3.0.

Thomsen is a returning All-American from La Porte City, Iowa, majoring in management: business administration. He is the top-seeded wrestler at 149 pounds heading into this weekend's Big 12 Championships.

Patton of West Des Moines, Iowa, is majoring in art: studio emphasis. Patton has wrestled about half of UNI's duals this year and will be representing the Panthers at 165 pounds at this weekend's conference championships.

Hodges is a senior from Watkinsville, Georgia, who will be graduating with a degree in computer science.
Â
Holschlag is a sophomore from La Porte City, Iowa, majoring in biology. He will be competing at 197 pounds in this weekend's Big 12 Championships.

Moore, a sophomore construction management major from Jackson, Minnesota, stepped into the lineup at 157 pounds for two duals and two large tournaments for UNI this year.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
