Cedar Falls, IA – The postseason awards continue to come in for senior Piper Thomas and junior Karlie Taylor. After a very successful season, the Panthers middle and outside hitters have been named Volleyballmag.com Honorable Mention All-Americans.
Unlike the AVCA All-American teams, Volleyballmag.com voting takes place after the national championship. The voting panel consists of coaches, media members, and significant followers of the sport.
Both Panthers selected finished 2018 in remarkable fashion, capturing UNI season and career records along the way.
Senior Piper Thomas finished with 465 kills and a .344 attack percentage. Thomas finished 2018 with 98 total blocks and hold the career solo block record with 98. Thomas leaves UNI fourth in career kills with 1,572 and fourth in career points with 1,870.
Thomas was named First Team All-MVC, was named MVC Player of the Year and MVC Tournament MVP. The senior middle hitter was selected to the AVCA All-Midwest Region Team and named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Junior Karlie Taylor ended 2018 with 563 kills, second-most in a season at UNI and the eleventh most in the MVC in a single season. Taylor's impressive 2018 campaign puts her at the top of UNI's list in total attacks in a season with 1,452 and ranks fourth with 4.77 kills per set in a season.
Taylor was named MVC Player of the Week four times in 2018 and was voted First Team All-MVC. The junior outside hitter was named to the MVC All-Tournament Team and was named to the All-Midwest Region team by the AVCA.
