Panthers Fall to Stony Brook 73-63

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI men's basketball team played their final non-conference game of the season in the McLeod Center on Saturday night. The Panthers hosted the Seawolves of Stony Brook, falling to the visiting Seawolves 73-63 and move to 5-8 on the season.
The Panthers started hot out of the gate, making three of the first four shots of the game to go up nine to five in the opening two minutes of play. The Seawolves came back and led by as many as eight points before a late run by the Panthers closed the gap to two at halftime.
AJ Green and Wyatt Lohaus made nine of the Panthers 11 shots in the opening half, finishing with 13 and nine points after 20 minutes of play.
The second half saw the Panther offense stall at times, the Panthers had stretches of three and five minutes without recording any points which led to a Stony Brook ten point lead with ten minutes remaining in the game.
Wyatt Lohaus continued to have the hot hand in the second half, going five for eight from the field and four for six from beyond the arc. Lohaus would lead the Panthers with 23 points while recording two assists and a steal.
AJ Green ended one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 16 points and nine rebounds. The freshmen guard also led the team with four assists and two steals. Trae Berhow ended the night with eight points and hauled in five rebounds while Luke McDonnell grabbed three offensive rebounds on the night.

The 5-8 Panthers now head into Missouri Valley Conference play, traveling to Peoria, Illinois for a showdown with the Braves of Bradley University. The Braves are currently 8-5 on the year after defeating Southeastern Louisiana 63-60 on Saturday night. Guard Darrell Brown and forward Elijah Childs lead the Braves in scoring averaging over 12 points per game. The MVC showdown will tip off at 7 pm on Wednesday, January 2.
