• The Fighting Hawks are led by 13thyear head coach Brian Jones. Jones has been the driving force behind the team's successful transition to the Division I level. That transition was firmly cemented in 2016-17 when the Fighting Hawks held true to their season-long motto of "Twenty and Tourney".
• UND finished the 2016-17 campaign with 22 wins and a 14-4 league mark en route to the Big Sky regular season and tournament titles. Both win totals were Division I benchmarks for the program, who punched its first ticket to the Big Dance with a 93-89 overtime win against Weber State in the Big Sky Championship game.
• Prior to his head coaching tenure, Jones spent time in Iowa City with the Hawkeyes. During Jones' five years as assistant coach at Iowa, the Hawkeyes went 98-64 (.605), received three NCAA Tournament invitations and won a pair of Big Ten tournament titles. In 2005-06, Jones helped lead Iowa to a 25-9 record, the second-most wins in school history, and the first undefeated (17-0) home record in the history of the program.
