Five Panthers Earn All-MVC Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) announced its post season award winners at the annual award ceremony prior to the MVC volleyball championship. Three Panthers earned First Team All-MVC honors in senior middle blocker Piper Thomas, senior setter Rachel Koop, and junior outside hitter Karlie Taylor. Two Panthers earned Second Team All-MVC honors in sophomore middle hitter Kate Busswitz and sophomore outside hitter Jaydlin Seehase. UNI's Piper Thomas also came away with the Player of the Year award, the MVC volleyball's highest athletic honor.
Piper Thomas has dominated MVC competition all season long on her way to a Player of the Year honor. Thomas recording a league leading .400 attack percentage and finished the regular season with 411 kills. Thomas has had a record breaking career at UNI, with 97 career solo blocks Thomas will leave as the UNI career solo block leader. Thomas recorded a season high 22 kills against Missouri State in Springfield in October, finishing with a .463 attack percentage. An efficient hitter, Thomas has recorded 13 matches with attack percentages over .400.
Rachel Koop had a great year, setting the Panther offense to a .246 team attack percentage. Koop earns First Team All-MVC after averaging a league high 11.81 assists per set, good enough for 6th best in the NCAA. With Koop setting the offense the Panthers have recorded a league leading 1,042 kills. Koop also holds four of the top ten assists performances in three set matches within the conference this season, recording 44 assists against North Dakota State, 45 assists against Southern Illinois, and 46 assists against Loyola in both contest.
Junior Karlie Taylor had a dominant season for the Panthers leading to a First Team All-MVC nod. Taylor leads the conference in kills per set, total kills, and total points. Taylor ranks eighth in the NCAA with 4.80 kills per set and her 545.5 points ranks twelfth in the country. Taylor's impressive season has her at the top on the conference in various categories including several single match records. Taylor ranks second in kills in a three set match with 20. In two impressive outings against Washington State, Taylor recorded 28 kills in two four set matches and recorded 34 kills in a five set match against Evansville on Nov. 16.
Kate Busswitz had an impressive sophomore season for the Panthers, earning Second Team All-MVC honors. The sophomore from Cedar Rapids, Iowa enters the MVC Tournament with 248 kills and has recorded a .282 attack percentage, ranking sixth in the MVC. Reliable as a hitter and a blocker, Busswitz has recorded 12 solo blocks and 49 block assists. Both skills were on display Oct. 19 against Drake when the middle hitter recorded 11 kills and seven block assists in a five set victory.
Jaydlin Seehase enters the MVC tournament with 21 matches with double digit kills for the Panthers. The Sumner, Iowa native has recorded the ninth most kills in the conference with 342 kills. Seehase has six matches with an attack percentage of .300 and recorded three of her best matches in the past month. Seehase finished with 17 kills and only three attack errors in a three set match over Loyola and 11 kills with only one error against Missouri State on Nov. 9 for a .435 attack percentage. Seehase's best performance came in her final regular season match against Indiana State where she finished with 14 kills on 27 attacks for a .444 attack percentage.
