UNI Volleyball Defeat Salukis on Senior Night

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI volleyball team defeated the Salukis of Southern Illinois in a three-set sweep on Saturday night. The Panthers won with set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 26-24.
The Panthers sent off seniors Lexi Astor, Kendyl Sorge and Piper Thomas in a pre-game ceremony. Thomas and Sorge would play a major role in the home victory.
The Panthers dominated the first set against Southern Illinois, recording a .485 team attack percentage to open the match. While the Panthers would take the next two sets, the team did not play with the same efficiency, committing 15 attack errors. The Panthers and Salukis managed to stay within a point of each other for the majority of the third set and even pushed the Panthers into extra points before taking the match 26-24.
Piper Thomas recorded 10 kills on the night with a .304 attack percentage but the most impressive part of the night was her defensive play, recording one solo block and five block assists. Sorge added 12 digs and one assist in her final regular season match in the McLeod Center.
Kate Busswitz had one of her best nights as a Panther, recording 12 kills and an attack percentage of .407. Karlie Taylor added 11 kills on the night and Jaydlin Seehase finished with 10. Rachel Koop had another impressive night, finishing the three-set match with 45 assists.

The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, November 16 when they travel to Evansville, Indiana to take on the Purple Aces. Evansville is currently 9-20 on the season and 3-13 within the Missouri Valley Conference. The last time the two teams faced off the Panthers won 3-0.
