The Panther Scholarship Club (PSC), the official fundraising arm of the University of Northern Iowa department of athletics, has announced a record-breaking year in 2017.
Contributions to the PSC in 2017 allowed for the fundraising goal to be reached with a total of 1,695 donors and a cash record of $1.52 million during the 2017 year. The record is a 12 percent increase over the previous high set in 2015 and an increase of 14 percent from last year's total. It was also a record for a total combined cash and gift-in-kind of $2,014,141 raised along with a record of new PSC members which was 208.
"The PSC is the lifeblood of UNI Athletics and we are extremely pleased to have had a record-breaking year in fundraising," UNI Director of Athletics David Harris said. "The effort put forth in the classroom and on the competition field by our student-athletes, coaches and support staff is being matched by our donors that support UNI Athletics. We would like to thank Nathan Christensen, Chelsea Szczyrbak and Samantha Koch along with the PSC Board and each of this year's volunteers for their countless hours of work to help us set a new fundraising standard. We also would like to thank everyone that gave to the PSC and we look forward to continued growth as we embark on 2018."
The PSC is one of UNI Athletics' largest revenue sources, and it is comprised of membership levels and seat donations. Funding from PSC donors provides scholarships for more than 400 Panther student athletes and all 17 sports. The PSC strives to create a rich tradition for UNI Athletics by providing the opportunity for all our student athletes to succeed in the classroom and in competition.Â
"We are so appreciative of our Panther family's generosity and leadership," Assistant A.D. for Development/Director of PSC Nathan Christensen said. "UNI Athletics is able to invest in the resources for our student-athletes to be successful in the classroom and in competition at the highest level because our donors afford us the privilege. We are incredibly grateful to PSC donors, volunteers, board members and staff for their continued support and dedication. Thank you for investing in our success."
In 2013 the Panther Scholarship Club celebrated 50 years of fundraising for the UNI Athletic Department and has raised more than $34 million over its life span and has impacted more than 20,000 student-athletes. Over the past five years, the PSC has generated $6,522,935 in cash donations.
The 2018 PSC Fund Drive starts in early February but you can still make a gift today for 2018. To invest in our success please visit the Panther Scholarship Club website at unipanthers.com/INVEST or call (319) 273-2471 or email psc@uni.edu
