CHICAGO, Illinois - The No. 22-ranked University of Northern Iowa volleyball squad moved to 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of the Loyola Ramblers.
UNI (12-4 overall, 2-0 MVC) won by set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 25-8.Â
Junior Piper Thomas led the way for the second straight night with a team-high 13 kills (.323 hitting percentage). Thomas added a team-best four blocks.
Senior Heather Hook ran the offense and registered 34 assists, four kills, four digs and three blocks.
Junior Kendyl Sorge registered 13 digs.
Junior Bri Weber collected a career-high four service aces. All four of her aces came in the final five points of the match for the Panthers.
UNI will return home to the McLeod Center for matches Friday and Saturday against Bradley and Illinois State. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
NOTES: UNI is 12-1 when winning the opening set ... UNI is 675-9 all-time when winning the first two sets of a match ... the Panthers held the Ramblers to a minus hitting percentage in the first set (-.028) and the third set (-.172) ... UNI is 16-0 all-time vs. Loyola and a perfect 10-0 against the Ramblers since Loyola joined the MVC.
