WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team came up on the short end of a 5-2 decision to the Southern Illinois Salukis on Saturday at Byrnes Park.

SIU (10-11 overall, 4-2 MVC) swept the doubles action to take a 1-0 lead over UNI (8-9 overall, 1-5 MVC).

The Panthers got on the board with a pair of singles wins from No. 1 Jieke Stroobant and No. 5 Eve Small. Stroobant recorded a straight sets win over SIU's Xiwei Cai, 6-4, 6-1. Small was able to rally from a set down to force a third-set tiebreaker against SIU's Polina Dozortseva. Small then posted a 10-5 win in the 10-point tiebreaker to end the dual match.

UNI will be in action again Sunday at 10 a.m. against the Evansville Purple Aces. UNI will honor its four seniors (Jieke Stroobant, Sydney Wolfe, Astrid Santos and Elvira Lopez) prior to the dual against Evansville.
