WATERLOO, Iowa--The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team fell today to in-state rival, Iowa State.
Gisela Kemper would fall in three sets to Erin Freeman in the No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 12-10. Regina Espindola of Iowa State defeated Sydney Wolfe in three sets 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Jieke Stroobant fell 6-4, 6-0 to Samantha Budai in the No. 1 singles spot. Maty Cancini would defeat Astrid Santos, 6-4, 6-1. Margarita Timakova netted a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Eve Small. Annabella Bonadonna would net a 6-0, 6-1 win over UNI's Savanna Hunt.
Budai and Cancini teamed up for a 6-1 victory over Stroobant and Santos in the No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 doubles, Timakova and Bonadonna won a close 3-4 match over Kemper and Wolfe of UNI. Espindola and Alvarez posted the final victory for Iowa State, netting a 6-4 decision over Small and Hunt.
The Panthers return to action Sat. March. 4 at the Black Hawk Tennis Club, hosting Upper Iowa at 2 p.m.
