IRVING, Texas – Senior defensive lineman Karter Schult has been named a semifinalist for the 2016 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
Schult is one of 156 student-athletes that the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame has chosen as semifinalists for this award. The senior from Tripoli, Iowa is also one of 36 representing the FCS and six from the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Schult is the eighth Panther to be named a semifinalist for this "academic Heisman", joining James Lindgren (2006), Chad Rinehart (2007), Josh Mahoney (2009), Ben Boothby (2011), Kyle Bernard (2012), David Johnson (2014) and Isaac Ales (2015).

He is the UNI record holder for career tackles for loss with 44.0, also tying the school record for tackles for loss in a game with 5.5 against Montana. The senior has started in 20 career games for the Panthers and ranks No. 4 among active career leaders in the FCS in total sacks (25.0).

Schult and the Panthers return to action this Saturday as they host the Southern Illinois Salukis for Homecoming. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m. CT in the UNI-Dome and will air live on Panther Sports Network and ESPN3.
