The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa football program will host the Southern Illinois Salukis on Saturday, Oct. 1 for its annual Homecoming game. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. CT.
About the Salukis: The Salukis have started the season 2-1 overall with their only loss coming against Florida Atlantic (L, 38-30) to open the season. SIU finished ninth in the Valley in 2015, but returned 14 starters in 2016. Southern Illinois brings a highpowered offense to the UNI-Dome, entering the game ranked No. 11 in the FCS. They are led by running back Daquan Isom, who ranks No. 13 in the country in rushing yards per carry (6.68).

Going the Distance: Senior Matt Easley scored a career-long 49-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter against Eastern Washington (9/17).
Quick Impact: In just his second season with the Panthers, Aaron Bailey has moved into a tie for No. 10 all-time at UNI in career rushing touchdowns, giving him a total of 22. He is tied with Pat Grace, who had 22 rushing touchdowns from 2006-09. The senior finished with two rushing touchdowns against Eastern Washington (9/17), marking the sixth time in his career at UNI that he has had multiple rushing scores in a game.

Record Breaking: Karter Schult became the UNI record holder for career tackles for loss with his 3.5 against the Eagles (9/17). He now has 44 total, passing James Ruffin who had 43 from 2005-09. The Tripoli, Iowa native has 12 TFL through just three games, the fastest start for any Panther in the Mark Farley era. The closest TFL number through three games in Collin Albrecht in 2012, who had six through the first three weeks of the season.
Jack of All Trades: Most football fans know defensive linemen for their sacks and tackles at the line of scrimmage, but Karter Schult has shown that with his size and speed, he can defend at all angles and all spots on the field. The senior lineman notched his first-career interception against Eastern Washington (9/17), returning it for 20 yards.
The Streak Continues: A.J. Allen has now either tied or set a new career-high in tackles for three consecutive weeks. The sophomore finished with 12 against Eastern Washington (9/17), surpassing his seven he set against Montana. His 12 tackles was a team-high.
Dual Threat: Michael Malloy has been an offensive threat for the Panthers since last season, taking snaps at wide receiver, running back and even fullback. He has started two games at wide receiver this season and added to his resume a career-long rushing touchdown at Eastern Washington (9/17). The senior scored a 30-yard rushing touchdown against the Eagles, his longest rush and longest rushing touchdown at UNI.
Strength in Numbers: The UNI defense has been ranked in the top-30 in the FCS in rushing defense in three consecutive seasons.
