CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa softball team's annual Hit-a-Thon on Oct. 6 has its lineup ready, and it's going to be a home run this year.
Last year, UNI men's basketball coach Ben Jacobson signed a one-day deal with the team and came out swinging for the fences. This year, he has some heavy hitters joining him.
The lineup this season will include UNI football coach Mark Farley, women's basketball coach Tanya Warren, former volleyball player and current softball strength and condition coach Eryca (Hingtgen) Bass and wrestling head coach Doug Schwab.
"We have had a great time Hit-a-Thon over the last couple of years, because it showcases the team and the hard work they put into building their program," said Matt Egger. "With what the team has done so far and with the help of all of the UNI coaches, we think this is going to be a huge success and a fun event."
The Panthers were just shy of raising $30,000 for the softball program last year. For this year, the team is hitting for $35,000.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy the excitement at 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.
For questions or donations to the Hit-a-Thon, contact UNI assistant softball coach Matt Egger at (319) 273-4747 or via email at matt.egger@uni.edu.
