
Redbirds Slip Past Panthers, 4-3

WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the visiting Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday at the Byrnes Tennis Center.
Illinois State (13-9, 4-2 MVC) was able to secure the doubles point to begin the match by taking two of the three matchups. The Redbirds posted wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles. UNI's No. 2 doubles team of Astrid Santos and Gisela Kemper knocked off Illinois State's Kadi Ilves and Jana Kustkova, 6-4. The duo of Santos and Kemper has won four consecutive matches at No. 2 doubles.
The Panthers (4-15 overall, 1-5 MVC) traded wins with the Redbirds in singles action. UNI notched triumphs at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
UNI's Santos scored a straight-set win over Kustkova, 6-3, 6-3. It was Santos's seventh win this season at No. 3 singles.
Kemper delivered a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over the Redbirds's Ilves. Kemper improved to a team-best 18-8 in singles play and 8-3 at No. 4 singles.Â
UNI's Sydney Wolfe knocked off Chanel Scudiero at No. 5 singles in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Wolfe earned her 14th singles win on the season.
The Panthers will be back in action Sunday at 10 a.m. against the Bradley Braves.
