UNI Shuts Out Upper Iowa, 7-0

WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team strung together its second consecutive win on the season with a 7-0 sweep of the Upper Iowa Peacocks at the Black Hawk Tennis Club Friday.
The Panthers started the match in style by cruising to three doubles victories. Jieke Stroobant and Elvira Lopez earned their seventh doubles win of the season with a 6-2 triumph over UIU's Saki Kawabata and Isabella Sella.
Then a pair of Panther doubles teams picked up their first wins in dual action. UNI's No. 2 doubles squad of Astrid Santos and Sydney Wolfe posted a 6-4 win over UIU's Kelly Jachymowski and Anna Okolot. UNI's No. 3 squad of Eve Small and Savanna Hunt also secured their first triumph with a 6-2 win over UIU's Jemina Linn Sorman and Yulia Prokopyshyn.
Santos secured the first singles win of the day at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jachymowski. Hunt followed with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Prokopyshyn. Small netted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Okolot to clinch the dual victory for the Panthers.
UNI would go on to sweep the singles' action that was wrapped by Lopez's three-set win over Sella in a tiebreaker. Sella won the first set, 6-4, only to see Lopez even the match with a 6-2 second-set victory. Lopez closed out the dual with a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.
The Panthers improved to 3-10 on the season, while the Peacocks fell to 8-6 overall.
UNI will open up Missouri Valley Conference dual action Saturday in Des Moines against the Drake Bulldogs. The Panthers and Bulldogs will get underway at 3 p.m.
