WATERLOO, Iowa - The Milwaukee Panthers edged out the University of Northern Iowa Panthers in women's tennis on Friday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club, 4-3.Â
Milwaukee took a 1-0 lead in the dual by taking victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. UNI's top doubles' duo of Jieke Stroobant and Elvira Lopez scored a 6-2 win over Milwaukee's Laurie Clark and Alysa Straub. However, UNI could not take down Milwaukee's other two doubles teams.
UNI bounced back in singles play with wins from Stroobant, Lopez and Eve Small. Stroobant knocked off Milwaukee's Labina Petrovska at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Lopez battled back from a second-set deficit against UWM's Hayley Marshall and tallied a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 2 singles. Small posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles over UWM's Dana Shannon.
Milwaukee improved to 5-5 on the year, while UNI fell to 1-8 overall. It is the fourth 4-3 loss by the Panthers this season.
UNI will head to Florida for spring break to take on Fairleigh Dickinson, Quinnipiac and Florida Atlantic.
