
Hot-Shooting Panthers Roll Past Bulldogs, 82-66

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team won its fourth straight contest with an 82-66 triumph over the Drake Bulldogs Saturday at the McLeod Center.
The Panthers shot a season-best 61.8 percent from the floor and moved to 14-11 overall and 6-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Panthers had five players in double-figures with Paul Jesperson leading the way with 21 points. Wes Washpun did not miss a shot and scored 15 points with six assists. Jeremy Morgan set a career-high with six assists and added 14 points. Matt Bohannon scored 12 and Klint Carlson tossed in 11 points off the bench.
Drake (6-18 overall, 1-11 MVC) got 18 points from Reed Timmer, 16 of which came in the second half.
It was a two-point game at 25-23 with 7:04 remaining in the half before UNI used a 10-0 run to seize control of the intra-state matchup. Morgan's three-pointer with 3:53 left in the half to close the run and give UNI a 35-23 advantage. UNI led 41-28 at the half.
Drake cut the lead to eight points in the second half on two occasions before UNI extended the lead back to double figures. UNI would eventually lead by 23 at 72-49 with 5:45 remaining in the game. UNI drained 7-of-11 three-pointers in the second half. Jesperson made four of his five three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes.
UNI will return home to the McLeod Center to take on the Missouri State Bears Wednesday at 7 p.m.
NOTES: It was Jesperson's third 20-point game of his Panther career ... UNI won the bench scoring, 16-7 ... UNI tied a season-high with 20 assists ... UNI has made at least one 3-pointer in 520 straight games ... Bohannon has made 72 3-pointers this season, which ranks as the 7th-highest single-season total in UNI's history.
