CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – University of Northern Iowa defensive back Deiondre' Hall will take part in the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis, Ind.
Hall will be competing with other defensive backs from across the country. Defensive backs will participate in their media day on Saturday, Feb. 27 and then in positional and field drills on Monday, Feb. 29. The NFL Scouting Combine is a vital event in the path to the draft. More than 300 prospects will participate in the 2016 combine in their quest to achieve their NFL dreams.
Hall, a Blue Springs, Mo. native, racked up numerous awards during the 2015 season, including earning spots on seven different All-American teams. He is a three-time all-conference selection and was named the 2015 MVFC Defensive Player of the Year.
The senior has been getting serious looks from NFL scouts this post-season, including at the 2016 Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 30. Hall was one of seven student-athletes representing the Missouri Valley at the Senior Bowl where he finished with five tackles, third most for the North Team.
Hall's versatility on the defensive side of the ball helped him standout as a Panther and proved that he would be able to take that next step into the professional football world. The Blue Springs, Mo. native played anything from cornerback to wide receiver during his time in Cedar Falls, showing his athleticism and adaptability.
Hall sits at 6-1, 192-pounds with a combination of speed and quickness that allows him to be versatile in the hybrid position. CBSSports.com said that one of his strengths is his "tall, athletic frame with the rare arm length that makes linemen jealous," and that his "rangy, long-stride allows him to cover a large surface area and catch ballcarriers from behind."
With that long-stride and big wingspan, Hall was able to lead the MVFC in interceptions last year and left him ranked No. 5 all-time in career-picks. He also showed in 2015 that he could score as well, setting a new school record for career interceptions returns for touchdowns.
The senior will get to test his strengths at the NFL Combine during the field drill portion of the event. Each athlete will participate in six different tests – the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill and the shuttle run. In addition to the tests, Hall will take part in drills that are designed specifically to test the skills of a defensive back.
