Tennis Picks Up First Victory, 7-0

WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team captured its first victory of the season with a 7-0 sweep of Gustavus Adolphus at the Black Hawk Tennis Club on Saturday.

UNI (1-4 overall) got the meet going its way early by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage in the dual. UNI's No. 1 doubles pairing of Elvira Lopez and Jieke Stroobant posted a 6-1 win over GAC's Michaela Schulz/Lizzy Stanczyk. UNI's No. 2 duo of Astrid Santos and Gisela Kemper notched a 6-0 triumph over Sid Dirks and Katie Aney. UNI's 3 doubles squad of Eve Small and Sydney Wolfe scored a 6-4 victory over GAC's Lilly Hartman and Carl Carlson.

The Panthers used the momentum from the doubles' win to keep its winning ways on the singles' side of the net.

UNI dropped only one singles' set in the dual and even doing so at No. 6 singles, Small was able to come back and win the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-6 over GAC's Hartman.
