Former UNI running back David Johnson had another career night for the Arizona Cardinals, playing in the prime time slot on Monday Night Football. The Clinton, Iowa native helped the Cardinals to a 28-3 win over the New York Jets.
Johnson rushed for 111 yards on 22 carries for three touchdowns, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Included in his 111-yard rushing performance was a career-long 58-yard rushing score in the first quarter. In an article written by Connor Orr on NFL.com, he said "Johnson's ability to find open space and accelerate is stunning for a player his size," something UNI fans know well.
Johnson juked and jumped over the New York Jets defense on Monday night, a defense that was ranked second in the league in rushing defense coming into the game. Johnson is first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns this season and is third in rushing yards with 568 through six games and six starts at running back.
Other former Panthers who saw action in week six of the NFL season include L.J. Fort (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Austin Howard (Oakland Raiders). Howard, who battled an injury to start the season, started on Sunday in the Raiders game against Kansas City.
