Panthers Earn Third Home Shutout, Defeat WIU 3-0

WATERLOO, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team earned its third shutout at home on Tuesday evening, defeating Western Illinois 3-0. The Panthers (3-2-2) held their opponents to just five shots in the contest.
Amber Nieland put the Panthers on the board just after the 15 minute mark, making contact with the ball amidst multiple Leatherneck defenders for her second goal of the season. Sarah Brandt scored her first goal of the season two minutes before halftime from the top of the 18-yard box as her shot went just over the WIU keeper and under the crossbar. Claire Netten assisted on the goal, her first as a Panther.
ÂMeredith McManaman helped seal the win for the Panthers as she scored her first collegiate goal in the second half to put the Panthers up 3-0. Sarah Brandt assisted on the goal, playing a ball upfield to McManaman who played it out of the keeper's reach for the goal.
The Panthers will continue non-conference play on Friday when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on Illinois-Chicago at 7 p.m.
