CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team played to a 0-0 overtime draw with Illinois-Chicago on Friday evening, their fifth overtime contest of the season. The Panthers (3-2-3) were outshot by the Flames 29-12, but UNI put seven of those shots on goal.
Defense reigned supreme during regulation as both teams were held scoreless throughout. Katie Witt almost gave the Panthers the go ahead goal with under four minutes remaining in the second half, sending her shot towards goal and off the crossbar.
UNI goalkeeper Whitney Blunt tallied six saves in the first 90 minutes to help keep the Flames off the board. Blunt was pressured early in the first overtime period by the UIC attack, coming up with two big saves, including one in the first minute. The junior finished with eight saves saves while earning her third shutout of the season and her second straight.
The Panthers will return to Cedar Falls for a one game homestand against North Dakota on Sunday before heading back on the road for three straight games. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
