UNI Drops NIU in Four at Huskie Invitational

DEKALB, Ill. - The University of Northern Iowa women's volleyball team notched a 3-1 victory over the Northern Illinois Huskies in the finale of the 2015 Huskie Invitational. UNI won by set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21.

UNI moves to 6-7 overall, while Northern Illinois falls to 4-8 on the season.

The Panthers relied heavily again on the play of newcomers in the victory Saturday night vs. the NIU Huskies. Freshman Bri Weber tied a career-high with 18 kills and fellow freshman Piper Thomas recorded the first three service aces of her career. Thomas also notched 11 kills. Jana Braakhuis helped out as well with three kills and a block.

The first two service aces of Thomas's career came in the pivotal third set where the Panthers rallied from a 20-18 deficit with a 7-1 run to close out the third stanza.

UNI enjoyed an 8-3 advantage in service aces.

The Panthers will return home and open Missouri Valley Conference play Friday vs. Southern Illinois and Saturday vs. Evansville. Both matches will get underway at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
