BROOKINGS, SD - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team played down to the wire once again on the road but fell to South Dakota State 1-0 on a last minute goal on Friday evening.
The Panthers (4-3-3) were aggressive in the first half on both sides of the ball, getting five shots up while holding SDSU to just one shot on goal. UNI attempted five shots again in the second half but SDSU took 11 of their 16 shots in the half with four of those on goal.
"We started off well but gave the ball away far too often and lost too many battles in the midfield," said UNI Head Coach James Price.
UNI looked to take the game to overtime in the final minutes before SDSU's Julia Lam scored her first goal of the season with 44 seconds left to earn the Jackrabbits the win.
"Disappointing result in terms of giving up a goal at the end which should have been avoidable," said Price. "We will have to regroup quickly and find a way to perform better on Sunday."
The Panthers will continue their road trip when they travel to Vermillion, SD to take on South Dakota on Sunday at 1 p.m.
