IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team fell to the University of Iowa on Tuesday evening 2-1 in overtime. The game marked the fourth overtime contest for the Panthers (2-1-2) so far this season and the second straight overtime match with the Hawkeyes.
Iowa scored the first goal of the game in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead that would stand for the next 45 minutes of game time before UNI knotted things at 1-1 midway through the second half.
Freshman Hannah McDevitt scored her first career goal at UNI to tie the game, finding the back of the net less than a minute after re-entering the contest. McDevitt recorded three shots on the evening with two of those shots on goal.
Coming off being named Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week this afternoon, Whitney Blunt saved seven shots for the Panthers with five of those saves coming in the second half.
"We played very well and fought to the end," said UNI Head Coach James Price. "I am very pleased with the way we came back and had some good chances to win the game. We have to regroup quickly and get on another run. Some terrific individual performances and a great group effort."
The Panthers will return home to take on IUPUI on Saturday at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and there will be a book drive where fans are encouraged to bring a book to donate.
