UNI wins its season opener at the Rams Volleyball Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The University of Northern Iowa women's volleyball team got a boost from its newcomers in scoring a 3-1 season-opening win over UC Davis at the Rams Volleyball Classic. UNI defeated UC Davis by set scores of 25-18, 25-27, 29-27, 25-21.

Head coach Bobbi Petersen recorded her 392nd career victory and started a lineup that featured three players making their first career starts. Petersen sent out freshman Bri Weber, freshman Piper Thomas and sophomore Heather Hook to begin the match. Weber sizzled in her collegiate debut with 18 kills and 21 digs. Hook, who had played in two sets in her entire career entering the match, posted 43 assists, eight digs, six kills and three blocks.
Junior Amie Held eclipsed the 1,000 dig mark in her Panther career as she posted 22 digs. Held has tallied 1,001 digs for the Panthers. Held also posted a career-high tying four service aces in the UNI victory.
Junior Kayla Haneline recorded a team-best seven blocks to go along with 12 kills. Junior Jaidyn Blanchfield scored a career-high 10 kills in the triumph.
The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday with matches against Baylor (2 p.m. CT) and against Colorado State (8:30 p.m. CT). Both matches can be heard live on NewsTalk 1540 KXEL.
