WATERLOO, Iowa - On Wednesday, the University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team took the court to defend a 15 game winning streak at home.
The Panthers would do more than advance the winning streak to 16, as UNI would beat in-state rival Iowa State by a final decision of 4-2. The win for the Panthers was the first time in 10 years since they last beat ISU.
"I'm excited for our girls," Head coach Chris Sagers said. "[ISU] is a very good team. We knew it'd be close, but I am very very happy for our girls."
The Panthers opened the match with a sweep in doubles play as all three pairs for the Panthers would win their matches.
Following the win in doubles, UNI would continue to dominate their home court as the Panthers would lose only two singles matches all day.
"I am pleased at every single spot today," Sagers said. "Even the matches we lost, they fought hard, fought until the end, and played really well."
With the win, the Panthers extended their home winning streak to 16 and will look to continue the run as they host Gustavus Aldophus on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
