Colorado St. Snaps UNI's Home-Court Streak, 84-78

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Colorado State University Rams snapped the University of Northern Iowa men's basketball squad's 18-game home-court winning streak on Saturday in the season opener for both squads, 84-78.
Colorado State had three players score 16 points in Gian Clavell, John Gillon and Joe De Ciman. Antwan Scott added 12 points off the bench as the Rams outscored UNI's bench, 18-13.
UNI got a career-high 20 points from junior Jeremy Morgan and 19 points from senior Wes Washpun. Senior Matt Bohannon added 17 points as he drained a trio of three-pointers vs. the Rams.
UNI led by five points early on at 14-9 on a layup from Wyatt Lohaus at 13:24. Colorado State took a 26-22 lead after a conventional three-point play from Emmanuel Omogbo with 8:42 left in the first half. UNI then went on a 7-0 run to take a 29-26 lead with 7:02 left in the half. But an 11-0 spurt by the Rams gave CSU a 37-29 lead with 2:53 until half. CSU's Prentiss Nixon drained a three-point to close out the first half and gave the Rams a 42-35 lead at the break.
Colorado State would lead by as many as 14 in the second half as the Rams took a 69-55 with 7:17 left in the game. UNI would close the margin to three at 73-70 with 2:13 remaining in the contest but could get no closer.
UNI will be back in action on Tuesday at 7 a.m. against Stephen F. Austin in the McLeod Center. Tuesday's game will be a part of ESPN's 24 Hours of College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on ESPN2.
NOTES: The loss was UNI's first setback in November in the McLeod Center ... UNI is now 21-1 in the month of November in the McLeod Center ... UNI is 51-10 against non-conference foes in the McLeod Center ... it marks the first loss for head coach Ben Jacobson in home-openers - he came into the contest having won each of his nine previous home-opening games ... junior college transfer Aarias Austin scored nine points in his UNI debut.
