NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State University Redbirds scored a 3-0 sweep of the University of Northern Iowa Panther women's volleyball squad on Saturday at Redbird Arena. Illinois State won by set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-17.
The Redbirds move to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while the Panthers fall to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in league play.
"I'll give our team credit because we made some changes and we kept trying to plug our way through it," UNI head coach Bobbi Petersen said. "Illinois State really played well and we didn't react to that."
UNI's Amie Held scored her second straight double-double with 12 kills and 25 digs.
"I give a lot of credit to Amie and what we asked her to do this weekend," Petersen said. "We just told her to go hit balls and then we have to rely on her in all our service rotations."
UNI's Kayla Haneline tied a career-high with eight blocks in the match to go along with nine kills.
"I'm also proud of Kayla," Petersen said. "She went up after everything to either get kills or keep the ball in play."
The Panthers will return home this weekend to take on Wichita State on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Missouri State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
