No. 64 Kansas State Stops UNI in Dual Opener, 6-1

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team came out on the short end of a 6-1 decision at No. 64-ranked Kansas State on Saturday.

It was the season dual opener for the Panthers under first-year head coach Chris Sagers. The Panthers earned their point in the match at No. 3 singles from Jieke Stroobant.

Stroobant scored a three-set win over Kansas State's Maria Panaite, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

UNI's Gisela Kemper dropped a three-set thriller at No. 5 singles as she rallied from a set down to force the third set against Iva Bago. Bago was able to capture the third set, 6-4.

UNI's top singles' player Erica Medlin forced a second-set tiebreaker vs. K-State's Sara Castellano but the Wildcats' top singles performer prevailed 8-6 in the breaker.

UNI will be in action again next weekend in Dayton, Ohio. The Panthers will take on Wright State on Friday at 11 a.m. and Dayton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
