The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa football program will travel across the Pacific Ocean to play in the Aloha Stadium against the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. local time and 11 p.m. Central Time.
About the Rainbow Warriors: Hawai'i is currently 0-2 overall after losing to two Pac-12 foes, Washington (L, 17-16) and Oregon State (L, 38-30) in close games. The Rainbow Warriors are being led by senior running back Joey Iosefa, who is averaging 98.5 yards on the ground through the first two games. Sophomore quarterback Ikaika Woolsey is currently 43-92-1 and is averaging 221.5 passing yards per game.

The Last Time against the Rainbow Warriors: This will serve as the first-ever meeting between the Panthers and Hawai'i. UNI has only played three of the current members of the Mountain West Conference in school history.

Last Time Out: The Panthers faced the Hawkeyes in their season opener, falling 31-23. UNI was able to cut the Iowa lead to just one-point twice during the game, but was unable to make up the difference.
Week 1 Awards: Senior running back David Johnson was named the College Football Performance Awards All-Purpose Performer of the Week. Johnson racked up a career-high 203 receiving yards and finished with 34 yards on the ground for 237 all-purpose yards against Iowa (8/30).
UNI against the FBS: UNI has an all-time record of 21-67-5 against FBS opponents. Most of the success has come in the last 27 years, with a 10-24 mark against FBS teams since 1985. Farley is 3-13 against FBS opponents with wins over Ball State (42-39, Sept. 22, 2001) and Iowa State (24-13, Sept. 8, 2007 | 28-20, Aug. 31, 2013).
UNI against the Mountain West: The Panthers are currently 0-4 against the current members of the Mountain West Conference. UNI has never faced an opponent from the MW during the Mark Farley era and have not played against a team from the conference since 2000.

On this Date: UNI blanked Kansas State, 17-0, in Manhattan on Sept. 13, 1986. Quarterback Mike Smith completed 24-of-36 passes for 296 yards in what was the second-straight win for UNI over a Big 8 opponent.
David Johnson against the FBS: David Johnson has proved that he is one of the most talented running backs in the FCS, but he has also proved in his years at UNI that he is one of the most talented in NCAA Division I football. In the four games that he has appeared in against FBS teams, he has racked up 994 all-puporse yards.

Showing Up: Kevin Vereen Jr. scored his sixth-career touchdown against the Iowa Hawkeyes (8/30). Sawyer Kollmorgen found Vereen Jr. in the end zone for a 23-yard reception with the senior finishing with 66 yards through the air. It was his first touchdown against an FBS opponent and his first in a season opener.
Receptions Galore: David Johnson notched his fourth-career 100-plus yard receiving game against Iowa (8/30), finishing with a career-high 203 yards off five receptions. The last time UNI had a player receive for 200 or more yards was in 2003 when Eddie Galles had 251 yards through the air against Southern Illinois.
In the Highs: Sawyer Kollmorgen finished with a career-high 380 yards against Iowa (8/30), going 17-37-2 for two touchdowns. He surpassed his previous stats against Iowa in 2012 by over 135 yards (vs. Iowa 2012: 20-33-1, 245 yards, 0 TDs).
McMaking Tackles: Brett McMakin finished with a career-high 11 tackles against the Hawkeyes. His previous career-high was nine tackles set against Youngstown State in 2013.
Auto-Schmadic: In Michael Schmadeke's first full game as the starting Panther placekicker, he knocked in three field goals, each one besting the previous kick against Iowa (8/30) He now has a career-long 38-yard field goal which he knocked in during the fourth quarter.
Opening Day: UNI is 58-51-7 all-time in season openers and 15-9 in the last 22 years. UNI is 7-7 in season openers under Mark Farley. Prior to the win over Iowa State (8/31/13), the last time UNI opened the season with a road win over an FBS opponent was in 1998, when the Panthers tallied a 13-10 win at Eastern Michigan.
This is a Panther State: On the 2014 roster, the Panthers have 70 student-athletes from the state of Iowa. The University of Iowa only has 27 athletes on their current roster from Iowa while Iowa State only holds 36.
Key Numbers: Three of the opponents UNI will face during the 2014 season were ranked in the final top-25 poll. Head Coach Mark Farley currently has a winning record against eight of UNI's 2014 opponents.
Road Warriors: With six road games this season, including one that will take the Panthers over the Pacific Ocean, UNI will travel an estimate of 10,760 miles during the season.
Home Sweet Dome: UNI is 190-49-1 in the UNI-Dome. The Panthers have gone undefeated at home in a season eight times since 1990. The Panthers have posted four perfect seasons at home under head coach Mark Farley. The Panthers are 75-13 in home Missouri Valley Conference football games.

New Faces, New Talent: UNI fans will see some new faces this season as the Panthers welcome 25 true freshmen and nine FBS/junior college transfers. The Panthers also made an addition to the coaching staff this spring with tight ends/offensive tackles coach Frank Verducci joining the 2014 staff.
Winning Tradition: Head coach Mark Farley earned his 100th career win during the 2012 season. He now has an all-time record of 111-52 in his 13 years at the helm. Stan Sheriff holds the UNI record with 129 wins from 1960-82.
All in the Family: Family has always been important to the Panthers and this year's roster shows the bond between father and son. There are currently nine student-athletes that have followed in their father's footsteps to become a Panther.

Numbers Speak: UNI is 80-6 in the Mark Farley era (2001-present) when holding the opposition to 20 points or less. The Panthers are 70-6 in the Farley years when scoring 30 or more points in a game. UNI had won 15 consecutive games when holding the opposition to 20 points or less prior to the game against Illinois State last season (11/2/13).
Starting with Experience: The Panthers will be returning 18 starters to the field this season, including several that missed out during the 2013 season due to injuries. UNI fans will get to see the dynamic trio of Sawyer Kollmorgen (QB), Kevin Vereen Jr. (WR) and David Johnson (RB) on the offensive side of the ball while Deiondre' Hall (CB), Xavier Williams (DL) and Jake Farley (LB) will anchor the defensive side of the ball.
Running for Records: David Johnson is now tied for fourth all-time in career rushing touchdowns (32). He is seventh all-time in career points (270) and fourth all-time in career rushing yards (3,168). He also moved into eighth all-time for career all-purpose yards (4,569). He is only the sixth UNI running back to rush for 1,000 or more yards in two seasons.
1 in 3: David Johnson is just one of three players in UNI history to rush for 1,000 yards and receive for 1,000 yards. He currently has 3,168 rushing yards and 1,401 receiving yards. He joins Corey Lewis (2005-2008 | 4,003 rush - 1,064 rec.) and Carl Boyd (1983-1987 | 2,985 rush - 1,707 rec.) on the distinguished list.
New Opponents: UNI will meet two teams on its 2014 schedule for the first time in school history (Hawai'i and Tennessee Tech). UNI will also face-off against Indiana State for the first time since 2011.
Passing the Numbers: Sawyer Kollmorgen is seventh all-time at UNI in career touchdown passes (37). He has played in 21 career games for the Panthers and is also eighth all-time in passing yards (4,664).
Tough Slate: The Panthers will meet three teams that are ranked in the preseason Coaches'/Sports Network polls this season and five others that are receiving votes.

Pride at Practice: In the game of football, the wide receivers and defensive backs have always had a fierce competition and is it no different at UNI. The Panther wide receivers have named themselves “The Bomb Squad” while the defensive backs are called “DB Nation”. The two groups battle for pride and yardage at every practice and scrimmage.
