UNI Knocks Off Northeastern, 3-0

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team got back to its winning way with a 3-0 sweep of Northeastern University on Friday at the Shamrock Invitational.
The Panthers (3-5 overall) snapped a four-match losing skid by tallying set scores of 25-15, 25-20, 31-29. Northeastern dropped to 4-4 overall on the season.
UNI blitzed Northeastern in the first set by taking it, 25-15. UNI managed to hit. 250 with 12 kills and four errors, while Northeastern had 10 kills but it was offset by 10 errors for a .000 hitting percentage.
UNI gained a two-set lead by securing a 25-20 victory in the second set. UNI trailed 18-16 before rallying with a 6-0 run to take a 23-19 lead. Jaidyn Blanchfield scored the clinching point with a solo block.
The Panthers and Huskies traded blows in a thrilling third set that featured 24 ties. The Huskies looked to have control at 24-22 but Eryca Hingtgen answered with back-to-back kills to knot the match at 24-24. Ashlee Sinnott recorded her third service ace of the match to give UNI a 30-29 lead. Kayla Haneline earned the final kill of the match to give the Panthers the three-set sweep. The Panthers saved four set points en route to the 31-29 victory.
UNI will return to action on Saturday with a pair of matches. UNI will take on TCU at noon and then the Panthers will challenge tourney host Notre Dame at 6 p.m.
NOTES: Ashlee Sinnott tallied a career-high three service aces ... Lindsey Schulz notched a career-high 11 kills ... Eryca Hingtgen posted her sixth double-figure kill total of the season with 11 ... Hingtgen also secured her fifth double-double of the year with 14 digs ... Amie Held had a team-best 20 digs.
