Drake Drops UNI in MVC Opener, 6-1

DES MOINES, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team stumbled to a 6-1 loss at Drake on Sunday afternoon in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both squads.
UNI (9-8 overall, 0-1 MVC) started strong by taking the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to secure the doubles point. However, Drake (12-3 overall, 1-0 MVC) swept all six singles matches to take the dual.
UNI's No. 1 doubles pairing of Erica Medlin and Jieke Stroobant tallied an 8-3 victory over Drake's Nell Boyd and Jordan Eggleston, 8-3. The Panthers's No. 2 doubles pairing of Elvira Lopez and Astrid Santos then closed out the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over Drake's Mariel Ante and Lea Kozulic.
The Panthers will be back in action next Saturday at Southern Illinois at 1 p.m.
