UNI Dispatches South Dakota State, 6-1

WATERLOO, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the Black Hawk Tennis Club on Friday afternoon.
UNI (7-6 overall) won its seventh straight home match with the triumph over the Jackrabbits. UNI started strong by gaining the double point and using that momentum to help in singles.
“We are very happy to get this 6-1 victory today over South Dakota State,” head coach Daniel Finn said. “Our doubles was pretty good for the most part. It allowed us to get the doubles point and get us started. The thing we struggled with today was energy and momentum. We had some moments where we lost our focus but give credit to the ladies for pulling themselves back together at big moments.”
UNI had five players win both singles and doubles matches against the Jackrabbits. Jieke Stroobant scored a 7-5, 6-1 win over Florencia Magni at No. 1 singles. Erica Medlin earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) triumph at No. 2 sinlges over Jenny Blackburne. UNI's Astrid Santos battled to a 6-3, 7-5 win over SDSU's Ffion Davies at No. 4 sinlges. Krissy Lankelma cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Beatriz Souza. UNI's Sydney Wolfe dispatched SDSU's Tiffany Filipovich at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Stroobant and Medlin recorded an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Lankelma and Wolfe combined for an 8-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
UNI is taking on Upper Iowa today in the second part of a Panther tennis doubleheader at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. The UNI-Upper Iowa match was set to get underway at 3:45 p.m.
NOTES: Krissy Lankelma won her 78th career doubles match to pull within one win of Joni Eaton for No. 4 on UNI's all-time doubles win chart … Lankelma also posted her 69th career singles win to move into a tie for No. 8 all-time at UNI with Meredith Esbeck (2003-2007) and Sampada Kanade (2006-2010).
