Wichita State Reaches Semis With 3-0 Win Over Indiana State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The No. 3-seeded Wichita State Shockers scored their 20th win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Indiana State in the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals in the McLeod Center.
Wichita State (20-9 overall) won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-20.
The Shockers opened up the first set with a 25-16 victory over the Sycamores. Wichita State turned a 7-5 lead into an 18-8 advantage with an 11-3 run. The Shockers hit .429 in the opening set with 14 kills and two errors on 28 attacks. Indiana State was limited to an .071 hitting percentage with nine kills and seven errors. WSU's Emily Hiebert tallied 11 first-set assists.
The Shockers rode MaryAshton Floyd for their offense in the second set. Floyd tallied eight second-set kills in leading Wichita State to a 25-19 win and a 2-0 lead. The Shockers led 8-3 and pushed the lead to 20-11. Indiana State scored four in a row to trim the lead to 20-15 and force a WSU timeout. The Shockers then closed out the set, 25-19. WSU's Hiebert added 14 more assists in the second stanza.
Indiana State (17-14 overall) jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third set. The Shockers responded with a 5-0 run to take a 12-11 lead. The match was tied 14-14 when the Shockers took the lead for good with a 3-0 run. Wichita State scored the final four points of the set to take it, 25-20.
Wichita State advances to the semifinals to take on No. 2-seeded UNI on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
