
Panthers Post 83-66 Exhibition Win Over Peacocks

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball scored an 83-66 exhibition victory over the Upper Iowa Peacocks in the McLeod Center.
UNI's balanced offensive attack was led by Deon Mitchell (13 pts.), Wyatt Lohaus (13 pts.), Paul Jesperson (12 pts.) and Marvin Singleton (12 pts.).
The Panthers began the game on a 17-2 run and eventually led by 21 points at 37-16. But Upper Iowa went on a 13-0 run make it 37-29 with 3:08 left in the first half. UNI would lead 48-37 at the intermission.
The Peacocks scored the first basket of the second half to trim the lead back to single-figures at 48-40. But a 7-0 run by the Panthers extended the lead back to double-digits and the lead never dipped below 10 the rest of the way.
UNI will be back in action on Nov. 9 in its final exhibition game of the season against Bemidji State. The Panthers and Beavers will tip at 1 p.m. in the McLeod Center.
NOTES: Upper Iowa head coach Brooks McKowen returned to his alma mater where he ranks second all-time in assists (425) and third in games started (117) ... McKowen helped guide the Panthers to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2004, 2005, 2006) ... UNI drained 10-of-23 from 3-point land in the exhibition and held the Peacocks to 8-of-24 shooting from distance ... UNI made 23-of-32 free throws, while UIU made 18-of-26 trips to the foul line.
