
UNI Gets Defensive in Exhibition Win, 64-45

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team wrapped up its exhibition play on Sunday with a 64-45 win over the Bemidji State Beavers in the McLeod Center.
The Panthers forced the Beavers into 25 turnovers. UNI also secured six steals and three blocks in the triumph. UNI limited Bemidji State to 37.2 percent shooting in the contest.
UNI was led offensively by seniors Deon Mitchell and Seth Tuttle, who each posted 10 points. The Panther bench scored half of the team points with Wes Washpun (nine points), Bennett Koch (eight points) and Wyatt Lohaus (eight points) contributing to the win.
UNI will open the 2014-15 regular season at home in the McLeod Center next Saturday at 1 p.m. against the University of North Dakota.
NOTES: UNI outrebounded Bemidji State, 33-29 ... UNI began the game on a 14-1 run ... Bemidji State went on an 18-3 run to take a 19-17 lead with 8:20 left in the first half ... Bemidji State led 21-19 with 6:53 left before half, but UNI closed the half on a 13-0 run to take a 32-21 lead into the intermission.
