Panthers drop dual to Redbirds

Normal, Ill. -- The University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team was in Normal, Ill., Saturday for a conference battle against the Redbirds of Illinois State University. The Panthers were defeated by the Redbirds by a final score of 189-108.
200 Medley Relay
The Panthers placed third, fourth and sixth in the 200 medley relay. The team of Elise Drewsen, Mikki Freese, Natalie Johnson and Aftin Phyfe placed third with a finals time of 151.79.
1000 Freestyle
Stephanie Jackson, Reva Bork and Alesha Rettenmeier placed second, fourth and sixth respectively. Jackson's second place finish came with a finals time of 10:55.93.
200 Freestyle
In the 200 freestyle UNI took home third, fourth and sixth places. Elise Drewsen was the Panthers top finisher in the 200 free with a finals time of 1:58.94.
100 Backstroke
Natalie Johnson, Mariah Holmes and Kristin Grimoskas placed second, fifth and sixth respecitvely in the 100 back. Johnson's second place finish came with a finals time of 1:00.56.
100 Breaststroke
Panthers Veronica Herrmann, Jill Georgen and Caryn Knight placed second, fourth and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Herrmann was the top UNI finisher, recording a finals time of 1:08.71.
200 Butterfly
Sophomore Taylor Ostrowski continued her terrific season with a victory in the 200 fly. Ostrowski finished her 200 fly with a time of 2:11.38. Stephanie Jackson and Kayla McCormick placed third and fourth respectively.
50 Freestyle
Mikki Freese, Morgan Riley and Sierra Sachtjen placed third, fifth and sixth respectively in the 50 freestyle. Freese paced the Panther finishers with a finals time of 24.50.
1 Meter Diving
Sophomore Allie Bey captured second place in the 1 meter dive. Bey finished with a final score of 274.57. Sarah Kemp and Ashlyn Clingman placed fifth and sixth place respectively.
100 Freestyle
Elise Drewsen and Aftin Phyfe collected second and third place finishes in the 100 freestyle. Drewsen finished with a finals time of 55.04, Phyfe swam her 100 free final in 55.15 seconds.
200 Backstroke
Natalie Johnson led UNI with a third place finish in the 200 backstroke. Johnson finished with a finals time of 2:12.03. Sierra Sachtjen and Mariah Holmes captured fifth and sixth place respectively.
200 Breaststroke
Freshman Veronica Herrmann took home second place in the 200 breaststroke with a finals time of 2:27.76. Teammates Stephanie Paape and Jill Georgen collected fifth and sixth place finishes. Paape's fifth place finish came with a finals time of 2:32.43.
500 Freestyle
Aftin Phyfe was the top UNI finisher in the 500 freestyle. Phyfe's finals time was 5:30.85.
100 Butterfly
Sophomore Taylor Ostrowski and Senior Kayla McCormick captured second and third place respectively in the 100 fly. Ostrowski's second place finish came in a elapsed time of 58.97 seconds.
3 Meter Diving
The Panthers took home second, third and fourth place finishes in the 3 meter dive. Sarah Kemp and Allie Bey placed third and fourth respectively. Freshman Ashlyn Clingman led all Panthers with her second place finish. She finished with a final dive total of 249.30.
200 Individual Medley
It was a clean sweep for the Panthers in the 200 individual medley. Caryn Knight, Stephanie Jackson and Jill Georgen placed first through third. Knight's first place finish came in a time of 2:17.27.
400 Freestyle Relay
The team of Mikki Freese, Elise Drewsen, Natalie Johnson and Aftin Phyfe placed second in the 400 freestyle with a finals time of 3:40.50.
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday, January 24th when they will play host to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks at the Glen F. Henry Pool.
